The Carl L. White Family is the 4th generation of a ranching family spanning more than a hundred years of life in Oklahoma
since the time the Cherokee Outlet was divided into large cattle leases. Carl's grandfather was a wagon freighter and drover
who in the 1880's transported goods from Kansas to Fort Supply and then down to Old Oklahoma and to Fort Reno. Many
nights he would camp on the island in the Cimarron River. Game was plentiful and there was feed and water for his team.
As the years went by, he came to know the island quite well. When the U.S. Government decided to open the Cherokee land
for settlement in 1893, Carl's grandfather knew the land he would "run" for.
Island Guest Ranch consists of 2300 acres of an actual island in the Cimarron River in northwest Oklahoma. It is a working
cattle ranch that welcomes guests from around the world. From April through October each year, the ranch opens its gates
for families, organizations, individuals, parties, honeymooners, family reunions - - anyone who wishes to experience the
flavor of the 'Old West' and true 'Western Hospitality'.
Brahma-Cross cattle and Quarter Horses are raised on the ranch. Wildlife is abundant with deer, turkey, coyotes, squirrels,
rabbits, raccoons and armadillos all in evidence. Birds such as water fowl, cranes, roadrunners, quail, woodpeckers and
swallows join the scissor tail flycatcher and numerous other song birds that are native to the island. An abundance of Flora
from aromatic sage to varieties of cacti bloom from early May through September. Large forests of red cedar offer homes to
numerous untold wild creatures
