The ranchers operate a fourth generation working horse ranch running 60 to 70 horses year round. Colts trained on the
ranch go on to become successful rope, trail, and ranch horses. It is the responsibility of the ranch cowboys to break a
string of colts as their summer duties, taking them from untouched range horses to highly trained cow ponies. Guests now
have the opportunity to ride with, and learn from trainers as they work these horses, participating where possible, and
learning some of the trade of the working cowboy horse trainer.
This unique guest ranch opportunity provides visitors all the amenities of the usual dude ranch, but also allows each guest
the opportunity to become a more skilled horseman by way of instruction in "Minimal Resistance Horsemanship" as seen in
the movie, The Horse Whisperer. Guests may receive individual attention on western riding (cowboy style), ground working
and starting colts, beginning rope work, as well as a wide variety of horse handling skills. Guests will stay at the ranch in
one of our authentic cowboy bunkhouses. True to the style of the original western bunkhouse, these accommodations are
built and decorated with the needs of the old time horseman in mind. Functionally practical, each cabin is extremely
organized, clean, and sleeps two with a private bath.
The Working Ranch Visit is a truly authentic old west adventure vacation designed for riders of various skill levels who want
to learn more about cowboy horsemanship from professional western trainers. The owners simplify Natural Horsemanship
techniques and encourage a great deal of "hands on" participation. The ranch affords a safe opportunity to learn and
develop new skills. Spend time with the trainer as he works with ranch colts These colts are in various stages of training so
each day brings a new and exciting experience. Guests are encouraged to participate, and will come away with a new
understanding of the American cowboy and his horse. Take an active part in horse related ranch chores like doctoring,
grooming, feeding, and sorting.
Daily trail rides will be taken into the vast Black Hills National Forest. These rides are a regular part of each horse's training
and exercise routine. They are a highlight of each day's activities. Advance new skills. Develop a feel for a horse, both the
physical and abstract feel associated with an elevated understanding of horses. Become Self Aware, understand how your
body actions affect the horse both positively and negatively. Develop an ability to read a horse's expressions, and ultimately
use this knowledge to become a better rider.
This Working Ranch Visit allows each guest to customize their stay with emphasis in any of the following areas;
Starting Colts - This clinic gives the participant a first hand introduction to minimal resistance training employed by so many
cowboys over the years. A soft hand and years of experience takes the untouched colt from first handling to the first ride in

this skill will be taught from the ground up. Guests may also have the opportunity to help introduce the young horses to the
