Ranch
Code:145

Come and join us for a taste of the Wild West at a full service working guest and cattle ranch-comprising thousands of acres

of private and public land nestled against the Colorado Rockies. There are horses to ride longhorn cattle to drive rivers to

float, fish to catch stories to tell and of course great food to eat and warm comfy beds in which to sleep.

From novice to expert the wranglers will match the horse, the ride and the group to each rider’s ability. The rides vary from a

couple of hours to a full day. The extensive trail system extends deep into the Routt National Forest and covers so much

terrain that in a week you can barely scratch the surface. Of course the wranglers do not necessarily stay on the trails they

like nothing better than exploring cross-country. There is also a riding arena available for practice and instruction, all part of

the package. Enjoy a full day (sometimes longer) of western tradition and adventure. Join the wranglers as they move the

herd of Texas Longhorns through the Colorado high country. The drive always includes roping practice and instruction and

often also doctoring and branding the cattle. The fully provisioned pack camps deep in the National Forest are a highlight of

each vacation. Offered several times each week, the pack trips included extensive riding and camping in style! For the

fishing enthusiast there are two ponds close to the ranch headquarters as well as higher lakes and streams accessible by

horseback. Another highlight of each week is a day of white water rafting. Trips can vary from a relaxed family float on the

upper Colorado River to more exciting class 3 & 4 trips on the Eagle or lower Colorado Rivers and in late summer for the truly

athletic a class 5 trip through Gore Canyon. Raft trips are scheduled daily to meet the needs of each guest. Trap shooting,

breakfast & dinner rides, hiking, archery, trips to Vail for golf, shopping and the weekly professional rodeo are also part of

the program. And each week finishes with a Gymkhana rodeo for the guests with lots of fun games

Counselors provide special activities for kids of all ages including riding, hiking, fishing, crafts and nature studies. Sorry, no

television or video. The main lodge serves hearty Western Cuisine and the fully licensed saloon often features live music by

the wranglers and serves as a gathering place for the guests in the evening.

During the WINTER months this ranch makes use of the Colorado winter wonderland. A groomed trail system leads from the

ranch into vast bowls and meadows with incredible views and lots of powder. Hop on the latest in Polaris snowmobiles with

handwarmers and slip into complimentary snowsuits, boots and helmets.

Previously a locals-only powder stash with difficult access located an hour from the nearest town, this snowmobiler's

paradise now features a groomed trail system leading from the ranch up into the Gore Pass area connecting into the trail

system leading to the Rabbit Ears Pass area near Steamboat Springs. While the northern section near Rabbit Ears Pass sees

lots of use, the southern area below Gore Pass was largely ignored. Working together with the Bureau of Land Management

and Routt National Forest, the ranch has developed new trails from the southern entry into the Gore Pass area in 1997 to

open up this previously unexplored area deep in the Colorado Rockies.

There are hundreds of miles of interlocking logging trails throughout the area and huge bowls for powder-riding and

hill-climbing. The area receives well over 300 inches of annual snowfall so you can always expect to find huge tracts of

untracked powder. The base area starts at 8500 ft with most of the riding done at elevations over 9000 ft. Experience some

of the deepest, lightest and driest snow in the West.

What you can not expect to find is a lot of traffic or services. Snowmobiling access is limited to ranch guests. With a

maximum capacity of 30 overnight guests, don't expect to see much traffic through the private land at the trail head.

Once you arrive at the ranch, don't expect to have to do much driving to ride your sled from your front door into some of the

best terrain in Colorado. A massage can be arranged after your hard day of riding, or you can just relax in one of our hot

tubs. The ranch also has gas available, a full-time mechanic, home-cooked meals served in the main lodge, and a

fully-licensed old-fashioned saloon. There is a fleet of 1999 and 2000 Polaris snowmobiles for rent, both guided and

non-guided, including the 2000 550 RMK. Other activities include daily shuttles to Vail and Beaver Creek for skiing, shopping

or fine dining; ice-fishing in private lakes, trap shooting, and evening. The snowmobiling starts in early December and

continues through early April.
