The Red Willow Ranch is basically a Working Guest Ranch, where guests are allowed to join in with the work if they wish to
Come and be with horses every day, riding without limits, take a walk or enjoy a picnic in the middle of nowhere -on your
own or with a friend - or gallop to feel the breeze brush your face ... no worries about traffic, smog or work. Go riding all
day - and in the evening, sit around a campfire, watch the horses in the fields, the silent forest nearby, or watch moose,
bear or deer meander along the distant trails. If you are lucky you will be serenade a bunch of coyotes howling in the
distance. You will find this tranquillity in the South Cariboo: Canada's True West, where cowboys drive their cattle and
display their skills in famous rodeos which you can attend from May through September. On your arrival you are assigned a
horse according to your ability and when you are comfortable with the horse you are free to ride and explore on your own
-no "nose to tail follow the leader" trail riding at this ranch! The ranch will provide a map and a packed lunch - but if you feel
more comfortable riding in a group you can do that as well. The horses - Appaloosas, Quarter Horses, Canadian Saddle
Horses and Standard Breed - are good tempered and well trained to match the guest's pace for the rider's enjoyment.
As a working ranch, they harvest their own hay, work the cows and calves which graze on the range from May to
October. From time to time they have to be moved to different areas to avoid overgrazing and in fall there is the "Round-Up"
of the cattle. Guests are welcomed to join the cowboys as they work the stock .Lessons in western riding are included in
the rate.
The guest house has a large lounge with an open fireplace - a great place to relax after a day of riding and exploring.
During the winter months horseback riding is offered weather permitting. There are cross-country ski trails nearby and at Mt.
Timothy, a short drive from the ranch, downhill skiing is possible (16 runs). Of course you can go on a sleigh ride and if you
