French, Spanish, or English.
Yosemite National Park - located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of central California - is a setting so spectacular and
awe-inspiring that even the first non-native visitors realized it should be protected for all time. John Muir, naturalist and Sierra
Club founder, called it "a landscape...that after all my wanderings still appears as the most beautiful I have ever beheld."
Earthquakes, glaciers and other forces of nature over millions of years left indelible footprints on the landscape that are still
visible in the towering granite cliffs, thundering waterfalls, steep mountains and deep alpine lakes. They beckon visitors to
explore, climb, photograph and experience their grandeur.
This land is so majestic and magnificent that it was the first territory ever set aside by Congress for public use and protection
in 1864. However, it took another thirty-six years and the efforts of Muir, Theodore Roosevelt and other influential
conservationists to bring all the lands of today's Yosemite National Park under federal protection. On October 1, 1890, the
U.S. Congress set aside more than 1,500 square miles of reserved forest lands, soon to be known as Yosemite National
Park. Today 94.5% of the park's 1,170 square mile area is dedicated as true wilderness for all who visit to enjoy.
Grand, Elegant, Majestic.
Yosemite Lodge - Former headquarters of the U. S. Cavalry
Yosemite Lodge is located where Fort Yosemite once housed the U. S. Army Cavalry while it protected and managed
Yosemite National Park. The Lodge was built in 1915 to accommodate the expected increase in park visitors as a result of
San Francisco's Pan-Pacific Exposition.
In 1956 and again 1998, the complex was redesigned and modernized with an emphasis on glass and wood detailing to
blend harmoniously with its surroundings. Landscaping of indigenous trees, shrubs and wildflowers further reflects the
natural beauty of the Yosemite Valley.
Accommodations - Standard Rooms
These are similar to a typical motel room and are furnished with beds, desk, chairs, private bathroom and telephone, but no
televisions.
