TAKE A RIDE ON THE WILD SIDE! Raft Cataract Canyon through Canyonlands National Park. Professional river guides lead
you through rapids, surrounded by spectacular rock formations with the look of the Grand Canyon. The rafts are your mode
of transportation into the 7th Wonder of the World: the Canyons of the Colorado River. In high water, (generally mid-May to
mid-June) Cataract Canyon hosts some of the biggest and most challenging rapids in the United States. Here the Colorado
River is a free flowing river. Depending on mountain snowpack and spring temperatures, the river fluctuates dramatically
from month to month as well as year to year. This significantly changes the class of the rapids (IV to V on scale of I-VI.)
From July on, the volume of water in the river drops and the rapids become more moderate. The rapids are still exciting but
now you don't have to be a serious river runner. You just have to be serious about having a fantastic time. Looking for a
quiet retreat from your stressful job? These canyons have been carefully isolated from modern civilization: no roads, no
traffic jams, no power lines, no phones, and of course, no clocks. Your body naturally slows down to a peaceful rhythm,
moving with the flow of the water. A few days in these remote canyons rejuvenates your mind and spirit. Take the peace
and serenity of the canyons back with you to your daily life. NEVER CAMPED OR RAFTED BEFORE? Those new to the river
and first-time campers are encouraged to join. The campsites along the riverbank are rustic. However, we bring everything
we need with us on the rafts and set up a new camp and kitchen each evening. We take care of you and make it all easy.
The guides prepare fresh meals while you relax and enjoy the hors d'oeuvres. You do not have to be experienced to take
this river trip: just be looking for some adventure and a little challenge. If you like, we'll teach you about living in the outdoors,
setting up camp and moving at the pace of the river. WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS TRIP: This thrill seeker's rafting trip calls out to
the adventurous, to those wanting the exploding white water rapids and fast flowing water of high water May and June
trips. For a more moderate river adventure, join us in July and August when the rapids are just big rolling fun waves.
TRIP LENGTHS: 4 and 5-day adventures, covering the same 96 miles. The 4-day trips are with larger, motorized J-rig rafts,
while the 5-day trips are oar-powered.
ITINERARY: Make sure to get to Moab prior to the 5:00 PM orientation meeting (meeting takes place at rafting company’s
office). During orientation, which lasts about 20 to 30 minutes, you will meet your trip leader, who will hand out your personal
dry bags and day boxes, confirm itinerary and answer questions you and your fellow rafters might have. Day 1: Meet at the
river office at 8:00am. After loading our gear we will drive to the river. Here the Colorado River is broad and quiet, as we
float lazily under the red cliffs towering 2000 feet above. Behind every bend new scenery awaits. Many western and action
movies were made here. There is plenty of wildlife watch out for eagles, deer and coyotes. Camp is on a remote beach,
with time to hike as the guides prepare a hearty western dinner. DAY 2: You’ll board the rafts after breakfast and float
deeper into Canyonlands National Park. The spectacular scenery resembles the Grand Canyon. Hike up the trail for
unparalleled photographic opportunities or take a swim in the river. We’ll walk to Anasazi Indian ruins and petroglyphs,
pondering their unexplained disappearance 1000 years ago. DAY 3: The River Challenge begins! Midway through the
journey, we arrive at the Confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers, which doubles in size and force as you enter
Cataract Canyon, In high water, the waves are gigantic and in quick succession becoming more moderate July through
September. There are notorious rapids here: Mile-Long Rapid, a series of sheer drops and notorious white water, then
comes a series of rapids affectionately named the Big Drops, Little Niagara and Satan’s Gut! DAY 4: (for 5-day trips): You'll
be in the rapids most of the day. We'll stop to "scout" the big ones; walking along the river's edge to look at the rapids,
planning our descent. Camp along the river. LAST DAY: today is spent motoring out of the canyon and onto the edge of Lake
Powell, where you will climb aboard your private aircraft for a birds-rye view of the magnificent canyon country which you
just experienced from its depths. We’ll meet you at the airport to drive you back to Moab by 6:30-7:00 PM. You will return with
exciting memories and great stories worth reliving and retelling. Take a Ride on the Wild Side!
